Professional experience

Angus Glennie is an arbitrator member of Axiom, accepting arbitral appointments both domestic and international. He is also an arbitrator member of Twenty Essex in London.

Angus has long had a keen involvement in arbitration, as counsel, as arbitrator and as a judge. His practice at the English bar from commercial chambers in London involved regular appearances in arbitrations conducted under LMAA, LCIA and ICC rules, both as counsel and as arbitrator. In Scotland, in addition to court appearances, he was frequently instructed as counsel in arbitrations concerning commercial and construction disputes.

Appointed to the Court of Session bench in 2005, Angus was for four years (2007-2011) the principal commercial judge. He was an arbitration judge from 2010-2016, dealing with the first cases under the Arbitration (Scotland) Act 2010. In 2017 he became chair of the newly formed Arbitration Court Users Group, a position which he still holds. He was appointed to the Inner House in 2016.

On stepping down as a judge, in December 2020 Angus was appointed Vice-Chair of the Scottish Arbitration Centre, with a view to becoming Chair after ICCA 2020 (now delayed until September 2022). In January 2021 he was appointed a judge of the court of appeal of the DIFC (Dubai International Financial Centre) in Dubai.

From 2012-2019 Angus acted as Honorary Chair of the Edinburgh University Centre for Commercial Law. In 2019 he was made an Honorary Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (Hon FCIArb).

Notable cases

As a judge, Angus Glennie has had a particular involvement in arbitration cases brought before the courts under the Arbitration (Scotland) Act 2010; and has a wide experience of commercial and construction disputes (including adjudication).
