Commercial Law Conference 2026
Axiom Advocates is delighted to announce that our Commercial Law Conference 2026 will take place on 2nd October.
Axiom is particularly pleased to welcome The Hon Lord Lake as the conference’s keynote speaker.
The event is open to all practising solicitors and is free of charge. Places will be reserved on a first come basis. The event will be held at the Balmoral Hotel, Edinburgh, attracting 2 1/2 hours of CPD.
The conference will bring together leading advocates for a seminar examining some of the key issues and developments shaping commercial litigation and practice today. The seminar, chaired by Chris Paterson KC will explore a range of current and significant topics, including group proceedings, artificial intelligence and the law, and important recent case developments
The Hon Lord Lake will deliver a presentation entitled “A grand unified theory of contract: so near and yet so far”.
The Lord Davidson of Glen Clova KC – “AI and the future of the legal profession. This will seek to deal with the current debate about the structural challenges posed by AI and the opportunities that may evolve. ”
Andrew McWhirter – “Group Proceedings: Where are we now and where are we going? Andrew will provide an update on development of group litigation in Scotland and a perspective on where Scottish group litigation might be heading, looking at what we can learn from jurisdictions with an “opt-out” mass litigation system.”
Emma Boffey – “The compensatory principle and Scots law: case law update” Emma will provide a case law update, on recent decisions which offer some guidance on how the compensatory principle in Scots law may be developed.”
Mitchell Abbott – “The economic delicts: the evolving landscape” Mitchell will provide an update on recent economic delict cases in both Scotland and England, and explain why further development of the law is anticipated”
