Roddy Dunlop QC
Dynamic silk recognised for his diverse expertise in a range of civil cases. Commentators note his experience in clinical negligence defence work, for which he is regularly engaged by the NHS Central Legal Office.

Recent work: Instructed in the defence of a clinical negligence claim against Alliance Medical, following the cannulation of an artery in the course of radiography.

Iain Ferguson QC
An experienced silk who regularly defends hospitals and GPs against a range of claims, recently advising in wrongful birth and fatalities cases. He has particular experience in neurosurgery and obstetrics matters and also advises on dental claims.
Strengths: “When he’s instructed in a case you know he is living it every moment. I’m not sure I’ve ever come across anyone who is more prepared than he is.” “He is someone I instruct when I need an aggressive, robust litigator. He is an extremely strong negotiator and someone who I would use for really difficult cases. He has really strong attention to detail and an excellent grasp of case law.”
Recent work: Acted for a defendant health board in a case regarding allegations of spinal cord damage following a steroid injection for neck pain.

Alastair Duncan QC
Established practitioner with a broad professional negligence practice. Frequently engaged by hospitals and to defend against claims of negligence and also recently acted for the manufacturer in a case involving metal on metal hip replacements.

Helen Watts
Newly ranked junior with a growing focus on clinical negligence work. Primarily instructed by the NHS Central Legal Office, she also represents pursuers. Regularly handles fatal claims and advises on fatal accident inquiries.

Chris Paterson
With an interest in professional liability, Chris Paterson is well placed to defend claims against medical and dental professionals such as GPs and surgeons. He is experienced in cases of maximum severity, recently advising in a number of fatal claims.
