Axiom Advocates is recognised as the pre-eminent stable in Scotland for company law matters. Advocates here handle significant contentious disputes before Scottish courts and advise on company applications, including schemes of arrangement and reductions of share premium accounts. The members are particularly noted for their acumen in directors' duties cases. An example of recent work is HM Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills v Patrick Bradley, a director disqualification case relating to an allegation of trading to the detriment of the Crown.

SILKS

Heriot Currie QC
A respected commercial silk, with a recognised expertise in handling company cases concerning breach of fiduciary duty. His broad practice also includes disputes related to construction, intellectual property and professional negligence.
Strengths: "He is very responsive, hugely intelligent and excellent in court."

David Thomson QC
Held in high regard for his commercial litigation practice, he is regularly instructed by the Secretary of State to handle director disqualification claims. He complements his company practice with additional expertise in property and insolvency matters and offers further ability in professional negligence and tax-related cases.
Strengths: "An excellent advocate, he is very tenacious and very able."
Recent work: Acted for Johansens & Co in a substantial dispute concerning alleged breaches of warranty in share purchase agreements.

JUNIORS

Susan Ower
A well regarded commercial junior known for her impressive, wide-ranging practice. She regularly advises clients on a variety of issues with a focus on debt, insolvency and commercial contracts.
Strengths: "She really knows what she's doing and she has a good manner both in court and with clients."
Recent work: Acted on behalf of Frank Doonin in the petition of Robert Forest for just and equitable winding up of a family company with assets in the region of £4.5 million. The matter involved significant environmental issues and the prosecution of the company and directors in respect of alleged environmental offences.
