Places available: Third Thursday lecture "Euro Commercial" to be held on Thursday 18th March
Axiom Advocates is due to host its next Third Thursday lecture on Thursday 18th March. The lecture entitled "Euro Commercial" will be chaired by David Johnston QC with Gordon Reid QC and Almira Delibegovic-Broome speaking.
EU law contains a vast body of legislation and case law. It permeates many aspects of commercial and public law disputes whether they are contractual, environmental, jurisdictional, fiscal or procedural. It is therefore timely to review some of the basic principles of EU law and to consider how they and other EU issues affect parties' rights and obligations in various commercial situations. Gordon Reid QC will review these basic principles and consider some recent cases in a contractual and fiscal setting (including VAT) where EU has prominently featured.
Almira Delibegovic-Broome will address some practical issues arising in commercial cases due to the impact of European legislation and case law. These will include issues relating to special jurisdiction in matters relating to contract; diligence on the dependence and interim orders relating to actions proceeding outwith Scotland, as well as the extent of the client's rights to have their rights and obligations determined by courts within a reasonable time.
This event is open to practising solicitors, is free of charge, and is eligible for CPD. Coffee is served from 4.15pm and the lecture will take place in the Laigh Hall, Parliament House. The two talks will run from 4.30pm to 5.30pm followed by drinks.
