James Mure graduated from Cambridge University and Edinburgh University. Since calling to the Bar, he has mainly practised in commercial litigation and judicial review. His commercial practice has extended to areas such as construction, leases and sale of goods.

In planning and environmental matters, James has acted for both local authorities and commercial clients. In addition to court experience, he has an advisory practice. In April 2007 he was appointed First Standing Junior to the Scottish Executive.
