Before coming to the Bar, Alistair Clark was a university lecturer and, later, a senior lecturer teaching mainly company law and commercial law.

His main area of practice is commercial law, although he has also acted in a number of defamation cases, intellectual property disputes and in other areas. He is regularly instructed on behalf of companies in commercial cases and has acted for a number of local authorities in disputes on commercial and administrative law matters. He is also a trained mediator (CEDR).

Most of Alistair's court appearance work has been in the Court of Session (Inner and Outer House) although he has also appeared in the House of Lords, in international commercial arbitrations and in mediations. He has occasionally acted as an ad hoc Advocate Depute, prosecuting serious crimes in the High Court.
