Heriot Currie's current practice at the Scottish Bar concerns intellectual property, commercial disputes, contractual matters, administrative law and environmental and planning. He is often instructed in construction law cases. He has advised on PFI and PPP projects and also does other types of cases - VAT, divorce cases with large sums at stake, rating appeals, professional negligence and competition law. He has recently advised on the environmental law implications of a major commercial project. A number of areas of his practice require knowledge of EC law and Human Rights law.

Heriot has appeared in the House of Lords once as a junior and four times as a senior. He appears regularly before the Inner House of the Court of Session. Heriot has extensive experience of advising clients at consultation and in writing and is familiar with the demands imposed by lengthy and complex litigation. He is used to dealing with foreign lawyers and coordinating litigation in more than one jurisdiction.

Heriot has received recommendations in the Legal 500's section on the Scottish Bar for commercial litigation, EC law and construction law. In Chambers UK, Heriot is identified as a leading silk.
