James McNeill has law degrees from Cambridge University and Edinburgh University.
In practice his main interests lie in commercial law (including company law), trust law (private, commercial and including occupational pensions), and property law (other than planning).
Although James appears regularly in court, much of his professional time is spent in trying to keep people out of court; whether in advisory work or preparing cases with a view to potential settlement.
In 2005, he became one of the judges of the Courts of Appeal of Jersey and Guernsey and sits there at least twice a year. He is also involved with the Commonwealth Law Association as Scottish Representative and is a member of the Scottish Law Commission Working Party on the Law of Trusts.
