Individual members of a variety of professional and other bodies, and certain organizations, may instruct counsel directly, without the need to instruct a solicitor.
Members of Axiom Advocates may accept instructions directly from an individual or organization in four main categories – legal professionals, other professionals, public authorities, and a wide range of other individuals and bodies.
The list includes solicitors and other lawyers practising outside Scotland, members of any professional body recognized for this purpose by the Faculty of Advocates and any such body itself, public authorities, recognized voluntary organizations and charities, public limited companies, trade unions and other bodies recognized for these purposes by the Faculty of Advocates.
If you are interested in instructing an advocate directly, or are uncertain whether you are eligible to do so, please contact a member of our clerking team.
More access on the direct access process may be found at http://www.advocates.org.uk/stables/directaccess_pb.html.
